What are exponents? Exponents, or powers, are numbers used in algebra. It is a quantity representing the power to which a given number or expression is to be raised, usually expressed as a raised symbol beside the number or expression. In math, exponents are usually seen as the second number extended to the top of the bottom number or the base. This is another form of completed multiplication.

Example of an exponent Base: the number being multiplied. This will always be the larger number at the bottom. Exponent: This tells you how many times to multiply the base. This will be the smaller sized number at the top of the base.
How to solve expressions with exponents:
Common Misunderstandings While simplifying expressions that contain exponents, sometimes we make the mistakes of multiplying the exponent by the base. This is incorrect. Example: does not mean 6 x 2. It means 6 x 6 (the number 6 two times)
