So what can you do to help schools in teaching Christianity • Be a resource – help them understand the concepts • Be a resource – explain how that concept is lived out in their local community • Be informed – see if you can get alongside the RE teacher and see how they are teaching Christianity in your local school • Be a friend – someone to bounce ideas against as they plan • Be a critical friend – point out gently and sensitively if they have got something wrong • Always use third person “ Some Christians believe” ensure that there is variety of expression – “whilst other Christians will ……. ” How not to help schools in teaching Christianity ? • Let them use you to teach the subject – it should be taught by an employed qualified teacher • Use the teaching of Christianity to proselytise rather than educate © RE Today 2016
