The Tolerant City Architects: Adept Architects, Schonherr Landscape Location: Helsinborg, Sweden • The Tolerant City of all the entries offers the most extensive and balanced range of solutions to the challenges posted by the competition. With its strong blue green connection the structure plan is very convincing and full of development potential.

The authors have understood and worked with the specific needs of Helsingborg. The proposal also shows how cultural, provisional, entrepreneurial and sustainable initiatives can be integrated with the area’s physical environment

Mineapolis Waterfront Design Concept Location: Mineapolis, Minnesota, USA Architects: Turenscape, Alta Planning + Design: Steve Durrant, Meyer Scherer Rockcastle: Tom Meyer

Their design approach celebrates the Resilient River; they believe in the power of nature to heal, and the relevance of the River in the life of the people of Minneapolis. While they recognize the role of industry, and in many cases are enthralled by the scale of its work along the banks, they also remain steadfast in our belief that this landscape is worthy of respect, even reverence, and protection from harm.

• Their purpose then is to aid in healing the riverfront as a place of critical ecological importance, as well as a place for working and living. Where the River has been an excuse for dividing neighborhoods and peoples, they desire a place where people can come together

• They concur with the view that parks can create new value on adjacent lands, but also propose that a new ecology of parks is necessary that makes productive use of the rich riverfront lands and waters, as well as the people on its shores.

The Delta District Location: Vinge, Denmark Architects: SLA Architects • The Delta District in the future city Vinge is an example of how landscaping can create dual functions: promote better communities and prevent flooding. A man-made delta and creeks handle rainwater and provide the city district with unique qualities for residents to gather around.

• The Delta District in Vinge is a former agricultural site and now is to become the very first green residential development area of the new city Vinge in Denmark. The Delta District will mark the starting point of a new type of urban community with 462 houses all built according to the spatial qualities of the landscape. Here, the landscape determines urban development to achieve a community where landscape, nature and sustainability goes hand in hand with a vibrant urban environment.

• Nature is brought close to all residents, so that everyone has a view to it and are, by that view, encouraged to stay in the outdoors along with their neighbours

Shunde Guipan River Waterfront Location: Shunde, China Architects: SWA Architects • SWA participated in a competition reimagining 19 -kilometers of the Guipan River waterfront in Shunde, China.

SWA’s design for the Guipan waterfront reflects the local Linnan waterway and “mulberry-and-fish-pond” agricultural system as the typology of new wetlands and park spaces, expressed as a series of wetland filtration ponds.

The plan develops individual islands as pedestrian-scaled mixed-use villages that are linked by a proposed environmental infrastructure of greenbelts, water corridors, rail, trails and a multilayered transportation system.

SWA’s design for the site maximizes the social and economic value of the river by emphasizing and expanding its inherent qualities of place, ultimately creating a comprehensive and connected waterfront to rehabilitate and reestablish the Pearl River Delta as a healthy ecological landscape.

Future Vinge Train Station Location: Vinge, Denmark Architects: Henning Larsen Architects • While primarily serving to connect Vinge to the regional public transit system, the undulating, circular urban hub is designed to prevent the railway from dividing the town in two halves.

• The idea is to create an integrated town space that connects the movements of the town and the landscape. In Vinge, the natural landscape becomes part of the town and you will be able to live in the countryside within the town
