Exploring the effectiveness of learning relationships within a mainstream primary classroom: the nature of working inclusively with SEND children. . Introduction Methodology I am a third year BA Hons Primary Education student who chosen to carry out my research project into the effectiveness of inclusive environments and the importance of both the teacher and teaching assistant role in respect to supporting children with additional needs. I obtained my data through anonymous structured questionnaire, which consisted of ten questions that aimed to provide participants perspectives and understanding in supporting children with additional needs. I selected to accumulate my data through an anonymous questionnaire to reduce ethical issues such as participants personal information, as well as to objectively and fairly analyses participants data provided. In respect to my original process for data collection, this process provided me with a lower ethical risk, but a negative aspect of this approach is that myself as a researcher did not have the opportunity to experience data collection as first-hand experience in the way intended. However, my anonymous questionnaires did provide for interesting data and responses Findings Location of Participants 4. 5 4 10 3 2. 5 6 2 1. 5 4 1 0. 5 2 0 0 Plymouth SW, UK Other UK Teacher Outisde Uk Less than 1 YR 1 YR 2 YR TA 4 YRS 5 YRS 6 YRS 7 YRS 8 YRS TA Q 5 Responses 3. 5 12 3 10 2. 5 Recommendations 8 2 6 1. 5 4 1 2 0. 5 9 YRS 10 YRS 12 YRS 13 YRS Teacher 15 YRS 30 YRS 0 Strongly Agree Neither TA Teacher Q 8 Responses Disagree TA Q 10 Responses 16 18 14 16 12 14 10 12 10 8 8 6 6 4 4 2 0 3 YRS Teachers Teacher and TA Experience 0 Participants personal experiences and personal perspectives of their own role remotely reflect aspects highlighted within my literature review, Goepel et al (2015) identifies the Teachers role as being organized as well as the ability to accommodate and adapt learning to suit all children’s needs and abilities. A brief comment made above by an anonymous Teacher participant identified a few aspects of their role and how they support children with additional needs. Overall my research study was set out to gain further understanding into the effectiveness of inclusive environments and how different teaching roles influence and support children’s learning. I personally feel that I have expanded my own personal knowledge and perspective upon different teaching roles in relation to supporting all children within their learning environment. My impressions of the data collection changed was hesitant to begin with but soon I adapted to the concept and found to favor the data collected as this allowed me to understand participants personal opinions and perspectives of the topic. 3. 5 8 The significance of my research project and the data that contributed to the entirety of my study is particularly significant in respect to understanding personal perspectives of educational roles; Teachers and Teaching Assistants. I feel that this particular study would be beneficial to leadership and management roles within educational establishments to understanding aspect that teachers and teaching assistants feel they needs additional support within their roles. As well as how Educational establishments hierarchy can influence and support their staff and pupils effectively. Conclusion Years of experience T + TA 12 I obtained my data through anonymous structured questionnaire, which consisted of ten questions that aimed to provide participants perspectives and understanding in supporting children with additional needs. However, my anonymous questionnaires did provide for interesting data and responses Discussion 2 Yes 0 No Teacher TA Yes No Teacher TA Strongly Disagree Future researchers should conduct a wider scale investigation into the effectiveness of inclusive learning environments and the impact and influence that both teachers and teaching assistants have upon learning. A larger scale investigation should be conducted to require a wider participant responses gathered, this research should adopt and revise the questionnaire platform to collect the data due to its sensitivity and in terms of my own research I found the questionnaire provided first hand experience of participants personal perspective and understanding of current working and learning environments. Further research into this topic can reveal extended insight and provide methods into effectively supporting both Teachers, Teaching Assistants and pupils. The outcome of further exploring into the effectiveness of inclusive learning environments could potentially influence the change of funding allocated to supporting children with additional needs, as well as influence higher educational employees into understanding the first hand barriers to daily aspects of teaching and learning and overall work towards placing measures within education to support both teaching roles and all children’s needs.
