Background: • She was in grade 6. • Jacinth comes from a Korean family. • Her and her family value education and have a strong believe that hard work creates success. • The intended reader was herself, to reflect on it in the future. The world inside the text What does her diary say? • At school, her teacher spoke firmly with her because she forgot to do her homework. • The text states that Jacinth felt embarrassed. How is the text written? • In a very personal tone. The world in front of the text. Who is reading the text? • Jacinth’s grandchildren (in the present day). What can the reader learn? • That everybody makes mistakes and that making mistakes is a part of life.
