C hired a visiting lecturer to lead on the project Really high calibre of work for 2 nd year students Visit to the Liverpool Medical Institution inspired over 50% of projects Departments were really Recommendations supportive of the work Talks are underway to replicate • Embed a session on NHS image, data protection and risk at start of the course the project at Huddersfield • • • What Helped • • Quick responses from Estates, Risk and Comms to answer queries Command strip recommendations to hang artwork Briefing on data protection and NHS image for ‘Pulsus Diem’ project Student access to see the clinical areas and understand the NHS • Amend proposal form to include mounting requirements Clarify timetable / transport arrangements prior to course starting Arrange a review meeting with key stakeholders day after the submission date to assess proposals Ensure adequate supervision is available for the day the pieces are exhibited • • • What Didn’t Go So Well Reactive nature of the work – not enough time given to provide correct advice for students and book facilities Lack of mini bus access reduced the number of site visits No one available for full day to supervise the hanging of pictures No description of pieces provided at time of exhibiting Some pieces had to be printed last minute on site, with no one available of experience to do this Number of pieces exceeded amount expected What Hindered • • • Understanding of what was feasible in timeframe Students requiring to fund own equipment No clear timetable of time on site Lack of mounting details in proposals Completed projects did not mirror the proposals submitted Competition to display in same area

So What? • The students got first hand experience of submitting project proposals •

So What? • The students got first hand experience of submitting project proposals • They won student Expo prize • Emma Robertson (MCH Charity Manager) is using this work as a foundation to explore other avenues that art can be used in the hospital • Helen Curtis (Librarian at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust) is duplicating the project with Simon Woolham – beginning Jan 2019 • Most of the art work is still up 6 months after it was due to be taken down • Planning to do it all over again for 2019
