Exploring Sounds
To create a soundscape about The Magic Faraway Tree book. A. We can use different sounds to help describe words. B. We can use sounds to help tell a story.
Task 1: Write Your Own Can you think of a way to make these sounds with your body, voice or instruments?
Your Job: Come up with a sound for each of the following: 1. Saucepan man walking. 2. Dame Washalot throwing his dirty water down the tree. 3. Pop cakes popping in the children’s mouth. Draw a symbol for each sound. Retell scenes from the Faraway Tree book in your own words or use the examples on the next slide, adding in the sounds you have created.
For example: Dame Washalot spends her time washing her clothes and throwing the dirty wash-water down the tree. If she has no clothes to wash, she washes the dirty laundry of other people and even the leaves of the Faraway Tree, soaking everyone below. The Saucepan Man lives with Mr. Watzisname. His name stems from the fact that he is covered all over with saucepans and kettles. Sometimes, he cannot understand what his friends are saying because he is partially deaf, which is further is not helped by all the noise from the pans and kettles. Pop Cakes are lovely. Rick put one in his mouth and bit into it. It went pop at once – and he found his mouth full of sweet honey from the middle of the cake.
