Interview with Mr. Durbin To prepare for his position as a principal, Mr. Durbin had to gain experience in dealing with a large number of students and teachers. He studied Master of Education in Administration and received his Masters degree to become a Principal. The best part of his job is being able to work with teachers and students but he faces some challenges such as, managing time and staying on track

Interview With Durbin Mr. Durbin’s advice to someone pursuing a career in education administration is learning how to communicate effectively and be instructionally sound. Mr. Durbin explained steps on how he handles student discipline which were, first gathering evidence on the incident, second hearing both, teachers and students, sides of the story. With the evidence he gathers after hearing both sides of the story, he’ll determine the action taken through the school policy.

(Monday) Schedule/ Routine Time In Description Time Out 8: 30 a. m. Monitored Hallways and ensured students were situated in their classroom with proper supervision. 9: 30 a. m. Meeting with assistant principals to catch up on things going on around the school and create blocked schedules for teacher observations. 10: 30 a. m. Closed door meeting with student specialist. 11: 30 a. m. Lunch/ interview 12: 15 p. m. Mr. Durbin caught up on his emails and looked over any paper work he needed to complete. 1: 45 p. m. Closed door meeting with principal off Southwest High School 2: 35 p. m. Checked over emails and made phone calls 3: 00 p. m. Talked with chief over inspection location and settled any difficulties for the event 3: 20 p. m. Made phone calls and replied to emails 3: 35 p. m. 3: 45 p. m. STAAR training 4: 30 p. m.

What I Learned About Being a Principal Manage time wisely, because you have so much going on in such little time. Keep track of any future events or meetings. Having a planner or agenda is a great way to stay on track. Be organized and remember where stuff are put. Communication Is key, having great communication with everyone around you makes everything so much easier.
