Example: Explicit Information “It was November, and John was becoming more and more excited

Example: Explicit Information “It was November, and John was becoming more and more excited for the upcoming holiday season. ” What month does the passage take place? It is clear that the story takes place in November because the text states, “It was November. ” The text says it directly; there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Implicit Information is. . . ● ● Indirect Implied Unspoken Inferred Implicit information is understood but not stated clearly in the text. In order to understand it, you need to look for clues or make inferences.

Example: Implicit Information “We were on the way to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving

Example: Implicit Information “We were on the way to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving dinner when I realized we forgot the sweet potato casserole. ” What month does the passage take place? It is understood that the story takes place in November because the text states, “We were on the way to my aunt’s house for Thanksgiving dinner, ” and Thanksgiving is in November. The text does not state the information explicitly, but the information is implied.
