Experiments for High Schools Prague, Czech Republic Our goal: to present and explain experiments that are usually not shown at school (for lack of time or equipment) History of the show: the show in the present form was formed almost twenty years ago based on previous experiences with individual seminars and shows given by the stuff of the Department of Physics Education Target group: high school students (tenth to thirteenth grade, fifteen to nineteen year old) Topics: six selected parts from high school physics – Mechanics, Optics, Electricity and Magnetism, Waves and Oscillations, Acoustics, Thermal Physics Size of the auditorium: ninety to hundred people Number of visitors per year: almost ten thousand students Frequency of the show: three shows every week during the school year Length of each show: seventy five minutes Place of the show: lecture room at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics The demonstrators eight teachers and postdoctoral students from the Department of Physics Education: Zdeněk Drozd, Leoš Dvořák, Jitka Houfková, Václava Kopecká, Ludvík Němec, Emanuel Svoboda, Zdeněk Šabatka, and Vojtěch Žák Zdeněk Drozd Jitka Houfková zdenek. drozd@mff. cuni. cz jitka. houfkova@mff. cuni. cz Department of Physics Education Faculty of Mathematics and Physics Charles University in Prague V Holešovičkách 2 18200 Praha 8 Czech Republik
