CHRIST OUR PASSOVER • Christ our Passover has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5: 7) • The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1: 29)

CHRIST OUR PASSOVER • 18 …you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. (1 Peter 1: 18 -19)

THE NEW CALENDAR • 1 Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2 “This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. ” (Exodus 12: 1 -2)

THE LAMB • 3 “Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a lamb for each household. ” (Exodus 12: 3)

THE LAMB: SACRIFICE • 4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. (Isaiah 53: 4 -5)

THE LAMB: SACRIFICE • 6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. 7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter… (Isaiah 53: 6 -7)

THE LAMB: SACRIFICE • “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. ” (Mark 10: 45) • For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God… (1 Peter 3: 18)

THE LAMB: WEAKNESS • For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. . . (2 Corinthians 13: 4)

THE LAMB: WEAKNESS • 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, (1 Corinthians 1: 21 -23)

THE LAMB: WEAKNESS • 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (1 Corinthians 1: 24 -25)

THE LAMB: WEAKNESS • 9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings. 11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren… (Hebrews 2: 9 -11)

THE LAMB: WEAKNESS • 14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. (Hebrews 2: 14 -15)

THE LAMB: SUBMISSION • “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. ” (John 6: 38)

THE LAMB: SUBMISSION • 30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading? ” 31 And he said, “Well, how could I, unless someone guides me? ” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. (Acts 8)

THE LAMB: SUBMISSION • 32 Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this: “HE WAS LED AS A SHEEP TO SLAUGHTER; AND AS A LAMB BEFORE ITS SHEARER IS SILENT, SO HE DOES NOT OPEN HIS MOUTH. 33 IN HUMILIATION HIS JUDGMENT WAS TAKEN AWAY; WHO WILL RELATE HIS GENERATION? FOR HIS LIFE IS REMOVED FROM THE EARTH. ”

THE LAMB: SUBMISSION • 34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, “Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else? ” 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. (Acts 8: 30 -35)

THE LAMB: SUBMISSION • 2 Pilate questioned Him, “Are You the King of the Jews? ” And He answered him, “It is as you say. ” 3 The chief priests began to accuse Him harshly. 4 Then Pilate questioned Him again, saying, “Do You not answer? See how many charges they bring against You!” 5 But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed. (Mark 15: 2 -5)

A MESSAGE FOR ALL • 3 “Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a lamb for each household. 4 Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons in them; according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats’” (Exodus 12: 35)

AN UNBLEMISHED LAMB • 5 ‘Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. ’ (Exodus 12: 5) • Judas said, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood. ” (Matthew 27: 4) • Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent. ” (Luke 23: 47)

AN UNBLEMISHED LAMB • “Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? ” (John 8: 46) • “I will not speak much more with you, for the ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. ” (John 14: 30) • “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well -pleased. ” (Matthew 3: 17)

AN UNBLEMISHED LAMB • 26 For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. (Hebrews 7: 26 -27)

AN UNBLEMISHED LAMB • 46 “It is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it. ” (Exodus 12: 46) • For these things came to pass to fulfill the Scripture, “NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN. ” (John 19: 36, see Psalm 34: 19 -20)

• AFFECTION FOR THE LAMB 6 ‘You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight. ’ (Exodus 12: 6)

• AFFECTION FOR THE LAMB 48 And all the crowds who came together for this spectacle, when they observed what had happened, began to return, beating their breasts. 49 And all His acquaintances and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee were standing at a distance, seeing these things. (Luke 23: 48 -49) • Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping…. (John 20: 11)

AFFECTION FOR THE LAMB • “I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. (Zechariah 12: 10)

TIMING OF THE LAMB • 6 ‘You shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight. ’ (Exodus 12: 6) • Now from the sixth hour [noon] darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour [3 p. m. ]. (Matthew 27: 45)

NO LEFTOVERS • 7 ‘Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 They shall eat the flesh that same night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 9 Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, both its head and its legs along with its entrails. 10 And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire. ’ (Exodus 12: 7 -10)

FIRE AND THE LAMB • 8 ‘They shall eat the flesh that same night, roasted with fire… 10 whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire. ’ (Exodus 12: 8, 10) • In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4: 10)

FIRE AND THE LAMB • 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. “I WILL PASS OVER” • 13 ‘The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. ’ (Exodus 12: 13) • The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1: 7)

“I WILL PASS OVER” • In Christ we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace… (Ephesians 1: 7)

A MEMORIAL • 14 ‘Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance. ’ (Exodus 12: 14)

NO TURNING BACK • 11 ‘Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste—it is the LORD’S Passover. ’ (Exodus 12: 11)

JUST JUDGMENT • 11 ‘…it is the LORD’S Passover. 12 For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments—I am the LORD. (Exodus 12: 12)

JUST JUDGMENT • 22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Israel is My son, My firstborn. ’ 23 So I said to you, ‘Let My son go that he may serve Me’; but you have refused to let him go. Behold, I will kill your son, your firstborn. ” (Exodus 4: 22 -23)

THE ONE TRUE GOD • 12 ‘For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments—I am the LORD. (Exodus 12: 12)

THE ONE TRUE GOD • 13 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 14 For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. (Exodus 9: 13 -14)

THE ONE TRUE GOD • 15 For if by now I had put forth My hand struck you and your people with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth. 16 But, indeed, for this reason I have allowed you to remain, in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth. 17 Still you exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go. ”’” (Exodus 9: 15 -17)

THE ONE TRUE GOD • 21 “Declare what is to be, present it—let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me. 22 Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other. ” (Isaiah 45: 21 -22)

FREE AT LAST • 28 Then the sons of Israel went and did so; just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did. 29 Now it came about at midnight that the LORD struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of cattle. (Exodus 12: 28 -29)

FREE AT LAST • 30 Pharaoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead. 31 Then he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, “Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, worship the LORD, as you have said. (Exodus 12: 30 -31)

FOR THE WORLD • Abraham: man • Passover: family • Day of Atonement: nation • Jesus Christ: world

FOR THE WORLD • “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1: 29) • He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. (1 John 2: 2) • We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. (1 John 4: 14)

HOLY LIVING • 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. (1 Peter 1: 18 -19)

HOLY LIVING • 14 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; 15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. (2 Corinthians 5: 14 -15)
