Title I, Part A Program-Definition Title I, Part A is a formula grant program that provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families 2
Title I, Part A Program- Purpose The Title I, Part A program is intended to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards, regardless of economic status. 3
How Schools Qualify • Campuses with an economically disadvantaged enrollment percentage of 40%-100% are considered “school-wide” campuses. This school year, our campus Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at Rusk is identified as a Title I Campus. 4
Title I Annual Meeting These “supplemental” federal funds are used to: • Accelerate instruction for struggling students, • Provide professional-development for teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators • Hire certified personnel, and highly qualified instructional assisting staff. • Provide additional resources – technology, personnel, materials, instructional programs, software, and • Encourage parent and family involvement. 5
Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at Rusk • At BCM BAR, we spend our Title I dollars on: 1. Classroom Instruction/tutorials 2. Classroom materials/technology 3. Field lessons 4. Title I Meetings, Workshops, and trainings 5. Parent/family engagement 6
Parent and Family Engagement Research has proven that students whose parents are involved in their child’s education have greater success in school. So, the Title I Grant supports activities that focus on parental and family involvement. 7
Parental Involvement Requirements • Parent Notifications (These are regular written communications to inform parents). • Examples of parent notifications are: – School-Parent Compact (These are statements of shared responsibilities). – Parent and Family Engagement Policy (This is a plan to involve parents). 8
Baylor College of Medicine Biotech Academy at Rusk • At BCM BAR we want you to be involved. Here are some ways that you can be involved in your child's school: 1. Participate in revising or developing the School-Parent Compact / Parent and Family Engagement Policy. 3 Joining all Coffee with the Principal Meeting 4. Joining Title I meetings / Participation Literacy and Math Night. 9
Other Requirements • The Federal Report Card This report card informs parents of the performance of the campus. – At BCM BAR we sent a letter home with an internet link to the report card for our school. 10
