Evaluating a Training Programme When evaluating these programmes I need you to consider the following points.
Points to consider • What are the components of fitness that your sport demands. • Has the programme stuck to sound principles of training. • How specific is what they have. Give details think about training methods used are they suitable for the sport. • Is it progressive? Give details • Overload (FITT) How have they achieved this or not. Consider intensity levels (training zones) • Will there be reversibility? • Have they avoided tedium? • Remember you are a scientist use subject specific terminology and be methodical. Revise your notes if necessary before charging in.
Groups • • Rosie, Troy, Milo (Sharon) Reuben, Atha, Charlie (Errol) Jake, Katy, Max (Mandy) Joe S. , Aaron (Ahmed)
Periodisation • Organising training to allow you to reach a peak level of performance for a certain time of year/event. • For Example in football: • Off Season: June, July = rest and recovery but keep base level of aerobic fitness going. • Pre-season: July = Build up aerobic fitness, decide on team tactics and work on speed. • Peak season: August to May = maintain fitness levels (so if there is no game have a fitness session to keep match sharp. ) Key is too manage the amount they do to keep players fresh.
Homework • Produce a training programme like the examples you have analysed (same format) • Identify the sport and most important components of fitness. • Draw out your programme and write a sentence or two stating how you have applied the principles of training.
