As simple as figuring out causes or effects It is not only an inference. Evaluating Reasoning (what your notes say) Examples: Ponyboy must deeply care for Johnny since he ran away with him. Ponyboy should not think that Darry does not love him just because they got into an argument. Non Examples: Ponyboy feels like he must run away after Darry hits him. Johnny killed someone and will have consequences for this. Cherry supports the greasers. Darry should realize by now that his actions hurt Ponyboy. Dally got extremely upset when Johnny died. The greasers need to learn that everyone has problems. Bob was a Soc.

Think about the following information: • Ulysses has been away for 10 years • Ulysses has killed many men • Ulysses fell in love with Circe • Ulysses fell in love with Calypso • Ulysses might never get home What statement is the most important conclusion the reader can draw from this information (column to the left)? a. Penelope must really love Ulysses to stay faithful for 10 years b. Ulysses must be a handsome man to have some so many love him c. Ulysses must love his wife a lot to fight this much to get home d. Ulysses must be a strong warrior to have lasted on his journey this long
