Outline - Two-day information sharing and learning and coordination workshop to Reflect on the strategies and progress of EU funded projects. Funded by The European Union
Purpose • Aim: Inform GBEG region project managers on emerging innovative programmatic trends in the GUN region, Sensitize PRO-ACT projects in the GUN region on resilience measures underway with EU funded projects in the GBEG region. • Theme: Transitioning from emergency response to resilience building: is it working? • Frame: Highlight successful innovations and challenges to the realization of the EU funded projects and regional programme short to medium term results.
Presentations Day 1: NRC (Institutional & CBO Support), NPA (Blacksmiths & Implements), Concern (Savings & Loans Associations), HARD (Extension Skills & Group Loans), PIN (Organisation of Agro-dealers), World Vision (Seed-multiplication & Storage), VSF-G (Poultry & Youth Groups), FAO (Vocational Training & Extension). Day 2: IRC (Multi-sector Collaboration), Cordaid (Community Planning and Monitoring), ZOA (Nutrition Education and Promotion), Oxfam (Vouchers and Market Development).

1. - Nutrition Education and Promotion. Activities involved are; 1. Campaigns to promote healthy nutrition within the group. Group members to train new beneficiary within their communities. . 2. Farmer groups training on proper food cooking and handling hygiene, consumption of balanced diet, breast feeding for the young ones, promote eating vegetables.

Campaigns to promote healthy nutrition. • Prepare for appropriate vegetable cooking demonstration, especially the leafy ones. • Promote consumption of locally nutritious vegetables. • Identify the substitute of mothers milk at the weaning stage. • Weaning age at 4 -6 months and introduce the weaning food like porridge and other light liquid food
2. Training and awareness raising ; a. Promote child breast feeding. . Mother’s milk boosts the child immunity. . Milk is rich in nutrients and water. . Exclusive breast feeding for 4 -6 mnths. . Introduce weaning foods that are rich in nutrients like porridge with milk, fruits, . Promote consumption of porridge among the breast feeding mothers.
b. Encourage and promote eating of balance diet food. . Balanced diet contains; Carbohydrates, Vitamins, animal and pulses proteins and micro nutrients from other source like fish, milk. . Consumption of well cooked vegetables improve body health. . Fruits consumption improves body immunity.
c. Hand washing using soap. Toilets are a major source of disease causing germs like cholera. Therefore , always wash your hands after visiting toilet to kills the germs. Hand washing using soap kills the disease causing organisms.
d. Proper storage of food and proper food covering. • Properly cooked food should be covered to avoid flies, cockroaches and other insect depositing germs in the food. • Always store your cooked food in a dry, cool place to avoid the food going bad.
CONCLUSION. • These campaigns and promotion of Nutrition and food hygiene will be incorporated into the all trainings. This topic will be allocated some 30 minutes in every training. • Young mothers will be selected within the group as the key healthy eating and nutrition promoters.
