A. Evaluation Possible sub-themes: • • quality assurance in testing, assessment, certification learner self-assessment teacher evaluation and teacher self-assessment innovation and good practice in evaluation Focus on developmental issues, quality of processes, reflection on practice
B. Continuity in language learning Possible sub-themes: • the link between learning a first foreign language and learning further languages • the disjuncture between primary and secondary school language teaching • learner motivation and learner age • new media and autonomous language learning
C. Content and language education ECML approach broader than usual focus on CLIL and use of English: • the content of foreign language classes • content-based approaches for languages other than English • teacher education for CLIL • evaluation of processes and outcomes for CLIL
D. Plurilingual education Possible sub-themes: • integrated didactics • learning the language of your neighbours • integrating intercultural competence into teacher training • benefiting from diversity: the role of community languages
Formats Medium-term projects: 3 - 4 years M • Focus on development of materials, tools, strategies • Aim to give support to practitioners • Four options for project structures provided to suit different project orientations S Short-term projects: 1 - 2 years • Focus on implementation and dissemination • Option for follow-up projects for current projects • For years 3 and 4 of the programme a second call for proposals will be launched in 2008/09
Project results M Medium-term projects: printed, digital or online formats • New developments • Reference tools • “How-to” manuals • Training kits S Short-term projects: web-based documentation • Recommendations and strategies for further dissemination
Project selection procedure Application deadline: 1 May 2007 Expert advisory group: assessment of proposals Bureau of the Governing Board: draws up shortlist of projects July 2007 Governing Board: final selection of proposals September 2007
