Militarism The countries of Europe (especially Germany) either wanted to be in an alliance with Great Britain, or be stronger than them. It was a race to have a military as strong as G. B. ’s Navy.

Alliances Countries were beginning to pair off and form clicks much like you people on the playground at recess. : -) Countries who were left out felt angry, leading to formations of alliances of their own. Just in case things were about to “go down. ”
