What are Path. Finders (addressing)? v Data Access and User Services have not evolved for some time. v There are more Satellites & Planned New Programmes; data volume explosion, new user requirements, new formats, … v EUMETSAT roadmap specifies a strategy to evolve its Data Access and User Services for the foreseeable future through the Path. Finders to exploit: § High Capacity Online Storage; Big Data Storage, Cloud Storage § High Speed Internet § Online visualisation standards, conventions and tools § Data transformation and customisation libraries § Virtual machines, Processing Node, … GSICS Joint Meeting 03/2019 4
Why do we need Path. Finders? v The Path. Finders (Proof of Concept) for: § Data Access § Data Delivery § Data Visualisation § Data Customisation § Data Processing GSICS Joint Meeting 03/2019 5
Path. Finders Overview v Data Access; On Line Data Access (OLDA) v Data Delivery; EUMETCast Terrestrial v Data Visualisation; EUMETView – licensed Web Map Service v Data Customisation; EUMETSAT Product Customisation Toolbox (EPCT) v Data Processing; Host processing nodes assignable for use by users GSICS Joint Meeting 03/2019 6
Applicability of Path. Finders to GSICS v If applicable, OLDA could be used as a GSICS products’ access service v GSICS products can be customised by the users using the EPCT v Data on OLDA could be processed on a Host processing node to generate GSICS products v Data tech knowledge, conventions, standards, etc. can be shared to support Data Management Collaboration Activities GSICS Joint Meeting 03/2019 7
What Next? v Introduce a pre-operational system to the Users – Pilot Phase v Gain feedback to develop Operational Phase v Path. Finders Integration Developments v Operations expected in 2020+ v Enhancements for new Programmes v Future GSICS discussions if applicable GSICS Joint Meeting 03/2019 8
