Ethnic Groups People of the same race or nationality who share a distinctive culture.
RELIGIOUS GROUPS The major faiths practiced in Africa are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, traditional African religions and Judaism.
Different Ethnic Groups Arab The Arab world is usually considered to be comprised of nineteen countries Ashanti The region is the source of much of Ghana's cocoa. It is one of Ghana's major ethnic groups Bantu The Bantu people is roughly 60 million Africans who speak languages in the Bantu language family. Swahili For at least a thousand years, Swahili people have occupied a narrow strip of coastal land extending from the north coast of Kenya to the capital of Tanzania.
Arab Ethnic Group • • • Arabs mostly live in North Africa and the Middle East. Mostly found in Southwest Asia and Northern m Africa They speak the Arabic language. Islam has played a major part in shaping Arab culture. The prophet of Islam was an Arab and Arabic is the language of its holy book. The name was given to the ancient and present-day inhabitants of the Arabian Peninsula and often applied to the peoples closely allied to them in ancestry, language, religion, and culture.
Ashanti Ethnic Group • The Ashanti people have always been known as fierce fighters. When the Ashanti tribe was faced with war, they used drums to signal the upcoming battle. The beat of these drums could be heard through the forest. • To the Ashanti, the family and the mother's clan are most important. A child is said to inherit the father's soul or spirit and from the mother a child receives flesh and blood. • The Ashanti religion is a mixture of spiritual and supernatural powers. They believe that plants, animals, and trees have souls. They also believe in fairies, witches, and forest monsters. There a variety of religious beliefs involving ancestors and higher gods.
Bantu Ethnic Group • Mostly found in Central & Southern Africa. • They speak Bantu as their main language. • Bantu is usually known more as a language than an ethnic group. • Bantu makes up over 400 different ethnic groups combined. • Bantu people were originally farmers or animal herders.
Swahili Ethnic Group • • • Mostly found in East Africa (especially in Kenya). The language they speak is Swahili. This is a mixture of Arabic & Traditional African Languages. Most Swahili people are strict Muslims. Swahili is a mixture of Arab and Bantu culture.
