MEANING OF ETD q An electronic (or digital) thesis or dissertation is, like a conventional thesis or dissertation, a document that explicates the research of a graduate student. It is developed in a form which is simultaneously suitable for machine archives and worldwide retrieval. q Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) are theses or dissertations prepared as text-based PDF files. ETDs can contain non-text elements such as multimedia, sound, video, and hypertext links. q Example : Shodhganga, Scirus ETD
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEMS q The Departments in the Bharathidasan University are actively involved in research in the form of Thesis and research publications and its intellectual outputs of the University. The University needs to store and retain their intellectual assets. q As a Solution, a ETD@Bharathidasan University can take the responsibilities to capture and maintain these intellectual outputs. Thus, by this project works, an effort has be previewed to maintain a Electronic Thesis and Dissertations in Bharathidasan University.
OBJECTIVES The design of the project concentrated the following objectives of ETD at Bharathidasan University: q To create global visibility for research; q To collect content of theses in a single location; q To provide open access to institutional research output by selfarchiving it; q To store and preserve the Thesis and Dissertations of BDU.
METHODOLOGY q This study explores the initiatives, adoption, and subsequent implications from studies carried out in Bharathidasan University Library. q The soft copy of thesis have been collected from controller of examination section and upload in to the dspace open source Institutional Repository software.

CONCLUSION The greatest advantages of ETDs are avoiding duplication in research work, ensuring quick retrieval of information, promoting resource sharing, and providing a permanent solution to the problem of space. It is time for librarians to apprise academicians, professors, administrators, and policy makers of the importance of ETDs to teaching and research.
CONCLUSION CON… Librarians should take the opportunity to attend workshops and conferences to gain knowledge of ETD repositories. It is essential for librarians as information professionals to take the initiative to make progress in this crucial area.
