Ross, Soluble beta-glucan polysaccharide binding to the lectin site of neutrophil or natural killer cell complement receptor type 3 (CD 11 b/CD 18) generates a primed state of the receptor capable of mediating cytotoxicity of i. In the presence of βeta glucan the binding is doubled. βeta glucan binds to the lectin site, which is present on the α-chain of the CR 3 receptor. Lectins are a group of sugar binding proteins. i. C 3 b is an inaktivated C 3 b, ligand for CR 3 receptor.

Increased activation results into increase fagocytic activity of immune cell. Result of this activity is release of harmfull substances like hydrogen peroxide and oxygen radical. These then turn into hypochlorous acid, hydroxide radical and singlet oxygen radical. These are substances toxic to the pathogen, they break up its cell wall, inner structures and DNA. This leads into destruction of the pathogen and its subsequent removal.

Chlorine-oxide radicals have impact on pathogen, damage its cell wall, inner structures and destroy DNA. This ultimately leads to destruction, death and removal of the pathogen.
