Significant Safety Achievements- 6/18 • • I worked with other divisions in addressing the

Significant Safety Achievements- 6/18 • • I worked with other divisions in addressing the liquid nitrogen fill station leak issue at Building 70. The hose/nozzle has been replaced and the fill station modified to make it easier to use. Posted procedures were updated. ETA Work Activities were reviewed and updated as needed. Cryogen PPE stored in all ETA lab areas was inspected. Annual Work Activity update/renewals continue. We had 18 Work Activities in EHS collaboration or various stages of renewal this month. Several are still pending. There at three new Level 3 Work Activities currently in development for new research projects. The Procurement NRTL equipment subcommittee has started work. We are currently reviewing documents and determining where changes can be made to ensure new equipment arrives with needed approvals. I completed my 8 -hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) annual renewal training.

Short Term Safety Outlook 7/18 • • Assist with the set-up of the new Splat Quencher in 70 -108 and the XPS equipment in 70 -177. Start the lab area seismic protection self-assessment project. Continue efforts at closing out Level 3 Work Activities undergoing annual renewals/EHS collaboration. The renewal surge continues! Continue follow-up on repair of conditionally accepted and failed electrical equipment. We are making progress on getting some old items off the lists. Continue with follow-up on the liquid nitrogen leak issue. Additional OJT ”train the trainer” will be implemented. The fill station at B 62 will also be updated. The City of Berkeley will be performing CUPA hazardous waste inspections in Building 70. We will be conducting quarterly SAA hazardous waste inspections in Buildings 60, 62, 70, and Potter.
