Significant Safety Achievements- 7/16 • • • Most of the Level 3 Work Activities due for annual EHS review have been completed and are either “active” or going through final management approvals. Efforts continue closing out “conditionally approved” and “failed” electrical equipment. No items are listed as “failed” and only 4 remain on the “conditionally accepted” list. Assisted with the development of the following new Work Activities: – – – • CY-0009 “Synvitrobio Transgene Synthesis (Potter- biohazard authorization) CY-0010 Testing of Battery Materials (Potter- new glove box) CY-0012 Flue Gas Reduction BU-0003 FLEXLAB Forklift Operator EE-0082 Combustion Lab (new fuel vaporization system added) Draft training slides were developed and review/comments received for: – New Hire Safety Orientation – Lab Safety Lead Orientation – Activity Lead Awareness • • The quarterly Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) hazardous waste inspection was completed for B 62 and B 70 lab areas. Three ETA personnel completed the 20 -hour Community Emergency Preparedness Team (CERT) training. Kenny Higga (ESDR), Ed Cubero (EAEI), and Ron Scholtz (ETA) are now part of the LBNL CERT.

Short Term Safety Outlook 8/16 • • • Complete the ETA Electrical Equipment Self Assessment project. This involves final removal of old equipment from B 70 hallway cabinets. Complete the annual renewal of Level 3 Work Activities. Only a few remain. Several other new/revised Work Activities are in the works. Complete development and deploy ETA awareness training for: – Activity Leads – Lab Safety Leads – New Hire Safety Orientation • • • Coordinate an electrical equipment inspection of the 62 -312 glove box. Perform an old chemical clean-out of the 62 -312 and 62 -314 lab areas. Continue to address all remaining ETA equipment on the electrical equipment “conditionally authorized” and “failed” lists. Address the CATS item related to the B 70 -173 odor issue. I will be giving two safety presentations to County of Santa Clara employees. The next ETA Safety Committee meeting will be August 4.
