Significant Safety Achievements- 1/18 • • Follow-up on the sample shipment issue has been completed. Testing has revealed that the most likely cause was residual oxidant in the sample reacted with a copper seal in the sample container. I completed a two-day “SAFE” Safety Academy of Excellence training course at LBNL. Telecommute ergonomic evaluations have been completed. The quarterly Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) hazardous waste inspections were completed on 1/24/18. Overall, we showed continued high levels of compliance, but two CATS were issued for significant items identified. The City of Berkeley performed a hazardous waste inspection of the 977 -271 lab area at Potter. No issues were identified. A number of old BTUS equipment items in the B 46 -231 interstitial space were removed and sent to salvage. I completed a University of California EHS Professional 8 -hour workshop held at UCB.

Short Term Safety Outlook 2/18 • A safety stand down for ESDR is being scheduled. Agenda and format established. T final plan will be communicated to PI’s. • Start the lab area seismic protection self-assessment project. • Continue to assist with old BTUS equipment clean-outs in B 46 and B 71. • Address the large list of “conditionally accepted” electrical equipment. • Start addressing personnel identified as “high risk” and/or “constant discomfort” listed in the ergonomics database. • Develop a classroom training course for new-hires working in lab areas. This will be similar to MFD 0010 training. • Assist with the safety set-up of the renovated 70 -134 lab area. • I will be holding a webinar on electrical safety issues for the Semiconductor Environmental Safety and Health Association (SESHA) on 2/14/18. We have over 115 registrants!
