Significant Safety Achievements- 12/16 • • The Oven/Furnace Self Assessment project is moving along. All ETA lab areas have been visited an inventory of ovens/furnaces was compiled along with relevant data for each. Remaining equipment in the B 70 hallway cabinets was inspected by the electrical safety inspector. A number of items were identified as “failed” or “conditionally accepted” and will need repair/salvage. Replacement of 6 old flammables cabinets was completed in Buildings 60, 62, and 70. These were replaced with new units that have self-closing selflatching doors. Follow-up was provided for items identified from the B 62 fire marshal inspection. This includes organizing chemicals stored in 62 -102 by hazard class. Old chemicals were disposed from 62 -102, 62 -342, 70 -223, and 70 -248. We completed the annual review and approval of Work Activity EE-0081 (Combustion Lab Laser). This included the annual laser inspection by EHS. A new Work Activity EA-0006 “In-Situ Composting” was developed and is currently going through EHS collaboration.

Short Term Safety Outlook 1/17 • • Complete the Oven/Furnace Self Assessment survey and start the draft report. Complete the repair/salvage of remaining equipment in the B 70 hallway cabinets that were recently added to the “failed” and “conditionally accepted” lists. Many of the Level 2 and Level 3 Work Activities will be due for semiannual/annual renewal over the next 3 months. The total due for renewal during 2017 will be around 100 Work Activities. Begin a survey of the hallway storage cabinets in Building 90 second floor. Implement EHS 0027 "Safety Walkthrough" training for ETA managers and interested Lab Safety Leads. This is planned for January/February. Continue follow-up on the on-going periodic odor complaints in B 70. These seem to be from multiple sources. Perform a quarterly Satellite Accumulation Area (SAA) hazardous waste inspection.
