Background and context

ESS Vision 2020: the role of EA "We will develop an ESS reference enterprise architecture to enable a systematic and coherent approach to the production of European statistics. " • "We will adopt enterprise architecture as a common reference framework"

Why an ESS Enterprise Architecture ? • We want • to ensure that the portfolio of projects will achieved the Vision objectives in an efficient and coherent way • to improve ESS collaboration and to be able to benefit from joint investments • We need • projects to be supported in delivering generic and standardized capabilities for the ESS • to be able to guide and track progress towards the target

What Enterprise Architecture can provide • EA can ensure that projects • remain aligned with the ESS Vision 2020 objectives • will deliver reusable components where possible • EA can supportfolio managers • to monitor progress, detect gaps, integrate new results in implementing the ESS Vision 2020 • to ensure that portfolio roadmap is well articulated, feasible and designed to achieve target

What is the ESS EA RF A set of tools to be used by project managers and ESS architects involved in the implementation of the ESS Vision 2020 The framework provides a common set of terms, methods, models and standards which form a starter set for the points that should be addressed in ESS Vision projects These tools build on the conceptual and global frameworks for Officials Statistics (such as CSPA, GAMSO, …) and aim to fill the gap between concepts and implementation.

Results of the consultation DIME/ITDG: Tentative conclusions • Release of new version (v 1. 01) of the ESS EA RF integrating the main feedback received and the outcomes of the sprint on ESS BCM • It will be used to continue working with ESS vision 2020 projects and providing project alignment reviews as requested by the VIG • Future improvement based on the integration of feedback from practical implementation, MSs perspectives and architectural development in projects (SERV, ESBRs, DIGICOM) will be governed by an ESS EA board (see below) • Adoption of the ESS EA RF as a ESS standard is not a short term goal
