What is the Basis for Believing The fourth basis for believing the Second Coming is the strong apostolic statement of the doctrine. From the inception of the Church at Pentecost onward the truth of the Second Coming was an integral part of the preaching of the apostles. Peter’s sermon in Acts 3: 12 -21 indicated that the Second Coming would be fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy.

What Will the Second Coming Be Like? The angelic witness given to the apostles at the ascension of Christ is not only a direct testimony to the reality of the Second Coming; it is also a statement of characteristics of Christ’s Coming. (Acts 1: 6 -11) In the same manner indicates a Physical return. At the resurrection, Christ rose in a physical body. Granted that body had wonderful properties not seen heretofore; it was nonetheless very physical. (Luke 24: 36 -43)

Christ ascended in a body and will return the same way. He will come in the clouds for the saints and later with the saints. The description of Revelation 19: 11 -16 is very physical. Christ ascended by Promise. In John 16: 5 -7 He clearly told his disciples that He was going away. Jesus told Mary Magdalene that He would ascend. (John 20: 17) He also promised the disciples that He would come again. (John 14: 13)
