ERS FOR POWER LINES Subtitle Emergency Retrieval System
ERS FOR POWER LINES Subtitle – Emergency Retrieval System for Power Lines
COMPANY IN ONE LINE Define the company/business in a single sentence • CSIR–Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai is one of the national laboratories under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India, with excellent research facilities and expertise for analysis, design and testing of structures and structural components.
PROBLEM STATEMENT Describe the pain point of customers/market? • Natural Disasters or manmade sabotage causes collapse of Transmission Line (TL) towers, which interrupts the power transmission over a large area. • If these collapses are not attended well within the time, it leads to huge monetary losses as well as loss of service to the customers. • Permanent restoration of TL tower requires several weeks of time. How do they address it today? • Use of modular temporary structure called Emergency Retrieval System (ERS) enables to restore power in short duration (2 -3 days) • Forms of ERS available in the western countries are patented technologies. Their procurement costs are huge and requires FOREX.
INNOVATION Describe your technology? • Emergency Retrieval System (ERS) is an indigenous technology for quick, temporary and reusable system for retrieval of power lines during tower failures Do you have Patent? • The patent application filing at component and system level is in process. What development stage are you at? • The prototype of ERS is developed and proof tested as per IEEE standard. Any 3 rd party verification? • Nil
SOLUTION Describe how your solution is better than other alternatives • The ERS modules are structurally more stable with box sections. These modules and accessories are proof tested for the design loads and the performance is verified with prototype test. • The cost of developed ERS is less than 40% of the imported system. • The overall system is compact and yet fully functional. It is simple to fabricate, requires less hardware with the innovative connection and foundation systems. Use of lightweight materials makes it easy to transport and install at remote locations. • The ERS is easy to plan and use at site. This modular system is easy to assemble and flexible enough to develop various configurations for different voltage class TL systems. Use case • Nil
MARKET SIZE Total market size • The recent regulations of Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for every transmission licensee to have an arrangement for restoration of transmission lines of at least 220 k. V and above through the use of ERS, created immediate market of around 700 to 800 Cr. (based on imported system rates) for the existing transmission lines in India. Total Addressable Market • In above market size already procurements are over for 250 to 300 Cr. Still ERS market requirement is for 400 Cr. In addition to this for every new transmission line, procurement of ERS is essential. Further, market is available in SAARC and African countries.
COMPETITION List down the competition • M/s Lindsey Manufacturing Company, USA Licensees of Lindsey – M/s Raunak Industries, Nagpur – M/s PCI Ltd. , Gurgaon • M/s DNV GL, Norway • M/s Supreme & Co. Pvt. Ltd. , Kolkata Their competitive advantage • Past experience
