Industry vs. Inferiority Age: Dilemma: Birth- 1 year Is my world Predictable and supportive? 1 -3 years Can I do things myself or must I rely on others? 3 – 6 years Am I good or bad? 6 - 12 years Am I successful or worthless? Success: • If the infant feels love and support from a family member. • If infant feels that their surroundings are familiar and comforting • If the child is allowed to accomplish things without help, even if it’s not correct. • If child is supported during times of trial and error • If child is supported in efforts to achieve goals that they have started. • If a child is allowed to try things on their own without prompting. • If child can create and be productive, and feels a sense of accomplishment. • If child feels as if their identity is the same to others as they imagine themselves. • If child can see their occupational future. Young Adolescence Who am I ? 6. Intimacy vs. Isolation Late Adolescence / Young Adult Shall I share my life with someone or live alone? • If the person can free themselves from being ego-centered. • If person can decide on who they would like to build a relationship with for the future. 7. Generativity vs. Stagnation Mid to Late Adulthood Am I successful? • If person feels as if their life has been useful and had purpose. • If a person has inspired that desire in their offspring. 8. Ego Integrity vs. Despair Older Adult/ Elderly Have I lived a full life? 5. Identity vs. Role Confusion • If the person feels that they can be self -sufficient. • If person feels as if they have accomplished all their goals. Struggle:
