Water pollution is one of the world’s worst increasing environmental problems. 1. 4 billion pounds of trash ends up in our ocean. Every minute, one garbage truck worth of plastic is dumped into the ocean. Over 100, 000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year.
Thousands of seabirds, sea turtles, seals, and other marine mammals are killed each year from being entangled in plastic. It is estimated that we use over 500 million plastic straws every day in America, and most of those end up in our oceans. Polluting the water and killing marine life Forty percent of our world’s ocean surface has pounds of plastic floating in it.
Entanglement can lead to dangerous injuries and puts animals at the risk of extinction. Few people realize that plastic straws and 1. Sea Turtles 2. Seals and Sea Lions soda rings are among the top ten items 3. Seabirds 4. Fish 5. Whales and Dolphins found during beach clean ups and can so much harm to marine creatures. These 5 marine animals are dying because of our plastic trash and are at risk for extinction.
Clean freshwater is an essential ingredient for healthy human life, yet 2. 4 billion do not have adequate sanitary water. The water becomes polluted from toxic substances dumped or washed into streams and waterways and the discharge of sewage and industrial waste. Due to this, many humans are struggling to survive, in third world countries especially. Many people are easily put at risk of diseases, usually from sewage combining with drinking water. As a result, these people suffer from different diseases.
How You Can Help! Conserve water, it lessens the amount of wasted water that requires treatment. BE AWARE, the more you know, the more you can educate others. Dispose off your trash in a proper manner and try to incorporate recycling as much as possible Ensure not to overuse pesticides and fertilizers.
