What do graphs show? A graph shows a relationship on a coordinate grid. Using a scale Graphs often have different scales on each axis. The most common scales are: The factors of 10: 1, 2, 5, 10 The multiples of 10: 10, 20, 50, 100 You work out a scale like this: On the y-axis, 10 small squares is 50 units so 1 small square is 50 ÷ 10 = 5 On the x-axis, 10 small squares is 5 units so 1 small square is 5 ÷ 10 = 0. 5
