This Woman’s Work: A Panel Discussion On Women in the Music Industry DU Alternative Music Highly Commended
Why we reached out to women in the Irish music industry – Music industry can be seen as a ‘boy’s club’, and women are often not taken seriously in the industry by others – Sexual harassment and assault are also quite common, and it goes undisclosed because of the fear of making enemies within such a small industry – DUAMS wanted to give a platform to those women who have ‘made’ it in the industry, to celebrate their achievements and to empower and inspire other women, and female students who would like to enter the industry. Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
What we did – We reached out to women we found inspiring in the music industry, not only performers but also women who work ‘behind’ the scenes – The women who attended our event were Faye O’Rourke (Little Green Cars), May. Kay (Fight Like Apes), Jess Kav (BARQ), Angela Dorgan (First Music Contact, Hard Working Class Heroes), and Nadine O’Regan (Today FM) – We held the panel discussion in the GMB during International Women’s Week, as part of the Equality timetable. Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
The impact on gender equality and the music industry – When we announced the event, a lot of people who identified as women approached us to tell us how impressed they were and how important they found this event. – The audience was made up of nearly entirely women which shows the clear interest women have in the industry and how important it is to show open it can be to them. – All the women on the panel commented on how great it felt to be able to speak candidly with other women about their experiences in the industry. Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
The impact on DUAMS – This panel was a first for DUAMS, and an opportunity for us to see and harness the political and social impact that music can have. – It was also chance for our society to engage with professionals in the music industry on a more personal level, and the success of the event means that we have made contacts with some amazing women in the industry, as well as showcasing ourselves as a celebrator of those women in the industry. – Diversity is the key to a good and powerful music industry and we believe it’s so important to celebrate the impact that diversity has on the industry. Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin

Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
The impact on DUCSS – Resonated with many of our members, has lead to a continued discussion, and reinforced the importance of the issue in our society’s culture – Lasting impact on our society and students in computer science and related fields at Trinity – Eager to continue DUCSS’ focus on equality in the tech industry, aiming to have more events reaching out to companies and other societies Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
Irish Travellers and Irish Society The Hist 3 rd Place
Why we reached out to Irish Travellers – I myself am an Irish Traveller – It was a topic, I felt, was often overlooked in current left-wing and liberal discourse. – Irish Travellers are a very marginalised group in Irish society on a number of fronts eg: High suicide rates, low access to education and lower life expectancy. Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
What we did – A Panel discussion was organised on the topic of Irish Travellers and Irish Society – We had the following speakers and topics; – Tj Hogan – Education and Outreach – Patrick Mc. Donagh – Travellers: A Liberal Blindspot – David Joyce - Travellers in the context of legal history – Ronit Lentin -Relationship between the Israeli state and Bedouin citizens, and the lessons for Irish Travellers – Matthew Moore – Similarities between Irish Travellers and Settled people. – Dermot Sreenan - Experience at MABS with Irish Travellers. Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
The impact on Irish Travellers – The Irish Traveller speakers found it a constructive and positive event in which they were able to share an alternative perspective about Irish Society. – It is hoped the event was helpful in creating a newer understanding of the problems faced by Irish Travellers. Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
The impact on the Hist – Was well received by the audience and the society in general. – The audience members asked many questions and showed a lot of interest. – This event drew the attention of the members of our society to the Travelling community – It is an issue which has been discussed at subsequent debates and other events Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
HYSTERIA: WOMEN IN COMEDY Trinity Arts Festival and DU Comedy Society 2 nd Place

Why we founded the Women in Business initiative – To promote and encourage female involvement throughout the fund and in financial services as a career – Because there is a strong business case for diversity and inclusion – Role models are a very effective method to achieve our aims Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin
