What is the EPQ? • A research based qualification • It is the equivalent of half an A 'Level (28 UCAS points = A*)
What do the students have to produce? • Planning and carrying out research on a chosen topic • A 5000 word report/essay OR an artefact, piece of drama or music etc A detailed student log which describes, in detail, their EPQ “journey” • A presentation to a non-specialist audience.
What will they get from the EPQ process? • You can learn about something you are interested in but have not been taught • You can gain an extra UCAS points (28=A*) • It will enhance a job, college or university application • It will give you the opportunity to develop/learn a wide range of skills
What do we expect from them? • Attending timetabled lessons in order to complete the 30 hours taught skills element; Lessons are on WEDNESDAY MORNING! • Meet all deadlines. • To DRIVE the work yourself. We are there to support.
Estimated timeline • September- October: identify EPQ title • Easter- mid project review • July- complete project and presentation ready for submission in September. • Throughout year 12 you will be receiving the 30 hour “taught skills” programme with me; you will also be expected to organise meetings with your project supervisor.
