Song: Mother of Light ➢ On the album Consign to Oblivion ➢ Lyrics by Mark Jansen ➢ Written By Jansen and Sulijter
Time Form Description 0: 00 Intro Starts off with fast strings and drums accenting with crash cymbal hits. Gradually more instruments are introduced along with guitar and choir and then the return of the strings with everyone playing the same melody. 0: 37 Verse 1 Simone enters with the decline of the strings leaving the rhythm guitar and bass. Strings come back with staccato figures and a crescendo showing the arrival of the chorus. 0: 54 Chorus The chorus starts with simone singing the lyrics with mark along with the growls. The drums keep a steady beat ending with a fast fill. 1: 06 Post chorus 1: 55 Chorus 2: 07 Verse 2 2: 25 3: 03 5: 00 Post chorus Bridge Conclusion The band stops leaving choir singing with the keyboard keeping a continuous beat. The drums then come back giving it a nice percussion feel. The strings return with a sort of counter melody dancing around the choir. The chorus starts again exactly as before only with more presence of horns They spice up the verse with strings outlining the chords and add more chuggy rhythms to the bass Instead of going into the chorus like before, they use the choirs with accenting drum hits for a syncopated feel. You can very lightly hear the strings which grow with every sentence making you feel the tension then holding out the last note for anticipation. The bridge opens with simone and her opera like voice and a soft piano playing behind her. The drums then return much slower than before then strings playing a very similar melody like the one simone is singing. It then speeds back up with guitars returning and also shows off what the orchestra can do. And the choir returning as well and leads back to the original intro. It ends with the chorus only with the horns holding the melody behind the lyrics with the strings adding in for emotion. Song ends with two strong hits on the beat by the hole band.
Song: Victims of Contingency ➢ On the album Quantum Enigma ➢ Lyrics by Mark Jansen ➢ Everyone in the band contributed to writing the song
Time Form Description The strings come in with a steady keyboard keeping the beat. The drums then hit along with a heavy riff from the guitars with a low oh from the choir that eventually fades away. the piano shows off two strong hits accompanied by the drum that is repeated. The horns come in with another melody that helps introduce the strings once more with the original theme. the guitars continue the riff underneath the orchestra that is also repeated twice. 0: 00 Intro 0: 46 Verse 1 1: 05 Chorus Simone takes over the lead with her clean vocals accompanied by the strings that use a ascending line. The drums never end to keep the feel of a heavy metal song. The same style of alternating between Simone and the choir continues. 1: 25 Verse 2 The verse comes back with Mark and his growls alternating with the choir and Simone. The small difference being strings and horns performing rips then descending back into the chorus 1: 45 Chorus 2: 07 2: 32 Bridge Conclusion Mark starts in with the verse growling. The guitars are starting a new riff and the drums are doing a steady beat. The choir and Simone come and go alternating with Mark like a call and response. Right before the chorus the drums speed up into blast beats. Chorus repeats. With the riff going, you get percussion dings and a distorted guitar with a brief melody. There is a stop that seems to hit you in the face with a cymbal swell that leads to the same theme of alternating continues between guitars and the orchestra. Another stop hits before a chromatic scale down by the winds and string and is again repeated once more before returning to the last chorus. All the brutal hits die and Simone returns with the sweet chorus that grows adding the choir to a dramatic ending with the returning of all parts guitars, orchestras, choir and eventually adding a key change along with Marks growls until the dramatic ending.
Song: Universal Death Squad ➢ Newest Single release ➢ On the album Holographic Principle ➢ Lyrics by Mark Jansen ➢ Song written by Delahaye
Time Form 0: 00 Intro 1: 49 Verse 1 2: 44 3: 06 Description Starts with a beautiful cello solo along with blocked chords by the piano and some swooshing effects. It quickly speeds up with a heavy guitar riff along with the drums. The orchestra comes back with the same melody that the cello had previously had. The mood quickly changes with rips coming from french horns and flutes with the follow of simone and choirs. The winds take off with the guitars performing fast sixteenth notes that slow into the first verse. Simone enters with the drums and guitars playing a slower beat that resembles slight galopping of a horse. The orchestra seems to come to a hault but you can hear a harmony along with SImone. The choir returns with the lyrics that had introduced this verse then returns to the verse as if it were a new theme. The orchestra returns to accompany the band with the second half of the verse. transition The introduction returns in place of the chorus with the original cello melody. The orchestra gives a sort of middle eastern minor scale that changes the mood ever so slightly before presenting the next verse. Verse 2 Simone returns again only the guitar ads a sllight muffled slide along with a crash hit in place of the silence. THe harmony then comes back along with the growing orchestra. The orchestra is then present with the choir just like before. The orchestra plays along again showing difference in sections. 4: 01 Bridge 5: 17 Solo 5: 33 Conclusion The choir embraces the minor chords and the drums change there beat with the light tapping of the crash cymbal. The horns and winds dance in the back when Mark enters with the growls. The guitars are alternate from sharing the melody and doing slides around the orchestra. The drum takes off in blast beats and when it slows the orchestra takes over. Simone takes back over with a different melody then the verse that is accompanied by the female choir that is soon taken over by the original intro. Guitar solo Repeating theme comes back to a final verse with the horns playing the melody with the strings. The choir come back with a triumphant style drum indicating the finally. Simone sings the verse again and mark comes in with the growls alternating with the choirs to the dramatic end with one final bass drum hit that fades away.
