EPIC Instructor Requirements The potential Enhanced Paramedic Interfacility Care instructor must: • have successfully completed the EPIC online training • be a paramedic instructor coordinator • be current in all required MCA credentialing programs • complete an approved Train the Trainer Session
The online training can be accessed via www. wmrmcc. org, scrolling over the Education tab and selecting Enhanced Practice Education. EPIC – Online Training Trainers must have printed copies of the lecture outlines, equipment manuals, training aids and any Power. Point slides used in the practical sessions. Training videos may be used from the online presentation to assist in practical sessions.
Helping Students Before Practical Enhanced Paramedic Interfacility Care (EPIC) Guidance document The guide is a step by step reference with pictures. There is a link to the document later in the presentation and also in the EPIC Trainer Guide.
Click here for materials EPIC Practical Sessions Must use and follow lesson plan objectives and meet or exceed time requirements. Students should be provided with lesson plan, pertinent portions of handouts, applicable checklists and the MCA adopted EPIC protocol.
Practical – Chest Tube • Follow lesson plan • Review common chest tube placement for air and fluid • Obtain chest tubes for practice • Obtain CDUs for practice
Practical – Chest Drainage Units • Subject matter expert recommended • Watch the 10 minute video • Use the guide to walk through the basics of CDUs • Demonstrate the parts on a practice CDU • Cover troubleshooting • Allows students to practice then evaluate them for competence
Practical – IV Pumps • Follow the lesson plan • Hand out the Aleris Programming Guidelines sheet • Watch the Aleris video • Show the user’s guide • Hand out the checklist for the Sigma Spectrum Pump • Watch the video • Practice time for students • Evaluate using the checklist for primary infusion
Practical - LTV • Follow Lesson Plan • Subject Matter Expert Recommended • Provide copies of the Lesson plan, Vent In-service checklist and test • Watch the 25 minute video • The Power. Issuing Credits • Prior to the practical session, your students should upload their certificates and enter the practical session coordinator’s email here. • You (the instructor) will be emailed and you can then reply with the practical date, time and location. • The WMRMCC will supply you with a sample CEU template, based upon the state approved credits. Issuing Credits (continued) • We are pursuing Blue. Book credits. When/if approved we will provide an update on how to obtain credits. This will likely be through Mi. Train for the same credits and after uploading completion certificates from all three parts of the EPIC program. • The WMRMCC will provide a final completion certificate template to approved instructors.

Utilization of EPIC vs. Critical Care EPIC calls must be reviewed at the agency level and are subject to review at the MCA or state level for adherence to the protocols. MCA approval is contingent upon agency and provider agreement to abide by the protocol and to permit the review of such calls.
