Ephesians 5: 25 -27 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
What is marriage? Marriage is, at its core, to be an evangelistic witness of the lifetransforming nature of being rightly related to Christ.
The relationship of Christ to His Church § Christ’s affinity for the Church (5: 31 -32) – our oneness with Christ. § Christ’s affection for the Church (5: 25) – the § § sacrificial and unconditional love of Christ for the Church. II. Love is commanded (v. 25) “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her…” (5: 25) Husbands, setting the atmosphere of love in your marriage is a result of your being filled with the Spirit of God.

(Ephesians 5: 31 -32). § Love is… motivation of the heart… Love is caring, even as a man nourishes and cherishes his own flesh, even as Christ does the church (5: 28 -29). § Love…seeks the highest good for another… just as Christ died for us so that He might sanctify and cleanse us, to present us to Himself in all our glory, as holy and blameless (5: 26 -27).

Love has a definition § Love… regardless of the cost… Love is selfsacrificing, even as “Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her” (5: 25). § Love…act of the will… Love is an action, more than words, but also demonstrated in what is done, even as Christ went to the cross for us (5: 25). § Love…. to the glory of God… Even as Christ will present the church glorious for His own sake (5: 25).
