Eph 6 1 9 Children obey your parents
Eph 6: 1 -9 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 "Honor your father and mother, " which is the first commandment with promise: 3 "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth. " 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord. 5 Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; 6 not with eyeservice, as menpleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 with goodwill doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free. 9 And you, masters, do the same things to them, giving up threatening, knowing that your own Master also is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him. The Letter to the Ephesians 6: 1 -6 Children- Fathers Masters - Slaves
Points to Consider • • A child’s responsibility to his/her parents. A father’s responsibility to his children. A slave’s responsibility to his/her master. A master’s responsibility to his/her slave.
A Child’s Responsibility to His/Her Parents • Children are to obey their parents, if the parent’s instructions are not violating God’s commands. • Children are to obey their parents because it is right. • It is right because God said it is! • It is right because children are inexperienced.
A Child’s Responsibility to His/Her Parents • It is right because parents are experienced. • It is right because most parents love their children and want what is best for them. • Motivated by their strong love for their children, several parents begged Jesus to heal their children.
A Child’s Responsibility to His/Her Parents • It is right because it teaches children the importance of obeying God. • It is right because it helps them avoid the punishment of disobedience. • Children are to honor their parents. • God takes a child’s rebellion against his father seriously.
A Father’s Responsibility to His Children • Parents should not provoke their children to wrath. • Make no mistake about it, God still expects parents to discipline their children. However, it should never be done in a way that provokes them to anger. The way we discipline our kids, can’t become an obstacle to them growing up to love God.
A Father’s Responsibility to His Children • We are to bring our children up in the training and admonition of the Lord. • A major component of training your children is to obey God’s commands yourself. • God has always expected fathers to tell their children about Him.
A Slave’s Responsibility to His/Her Master • Bondservants are to be obedient to their earthly masters. • They are to do this with fear, with trembling and with a sincere heart. • They are not to serve their earthly masters because they deserve it. They serve them well because it is the will of God.
A Slave’s Responsibility to His/Her Master • They are not to serve with eyeservice. The goal is not to please man but to please God. • Everyone will receive a blessing from the Lord for doing good.
A Slave’s Responsibility to His/Her Master • Masters are to give up threatening. • We must all remember that God shows no partiality. • Our money won’t save us. • Our position in life won’t save us.
Points to Consider • • A child’s responsibility to his/her parents. A father’s responsibility to his children. A slave’s responsibility to his/her master. A master’s responsibility to his/her slave.
