POSTER: TITLE A poster is essentially an expanded abstract. • DO make the title large and readable from a distance of ~ 20 feet. • DON’T use ALL CAPS. • DO list all authors’ names below the title.

POSTER: INTRODUCTION • DO provide appropriate background and justification. • DO keep it brief. • DO explain how your work will add to what is already known.

POSTER: MATERIALS & METHODS • DO provide just enough information for the viewer to understand how you collected data. • DO NOT include too much detail.

POSTER: RESULTS • DO use figures to show your results. • DO make figures large and very clear. • DON’T use tables with raw data. • DO use large, clear font. • DO use color effectively, to clarify,

POSTER: CONCLUSIONS • DO expect your results section to speak for itself, but… • DO include a brief analysis of your results. • DO include mention of practical applications here.

POSTER SIZE Each scientific meeting has its own specifications for poster size and format. common: 48” wide x 36” tall. These are the dimensions we will use.

USING THE RIGHT SOFTWARE Your lab manual has instructions for creating a 48” x 36” poster in Power. Point that you can either • have printed at the library ($$) • print on 8. 5 x 11 paper tiles

POSTER SYMPOSIUM All poster symposia will be held during finals period in your lab room. Your symposium is scheduled for the final exam time reserved for your lab section. See the lab symposium link in the syllabus to confirm your symposium date and time.

POSTER SYMPOSIUM DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN FOAM CORE BOARD. DO NOT GLUE OR OTHERWISE PERMANENTLY ATTACH YOUR POSTER TO THE PROVIDED BOARD.

POSTER SYMPOSIUM TEAMS DISREGARDING THE PREVIOUS TWO RULES WILL AUTOMATICALLY LOSE 10 POINTS FROM THEIR POSTER PRESENTATION SCORE.

POSTER SYMPOSIUM Your lab manual has precise instructions for poster set up and for the symposium itself. Be sure to read and familiarize yourself with the procedure.

POSTER SYMPOSIUM Each team will split up into two pairs. One pair will tend the poster and answer questions from viewers. The other pair will view all the other posters in the

POSTER SYMPOSIUM After a set amount of time (your instructor will decide), the two pairs will switch roles. You will evaluate all other teams’ posters with the student evaluation rubric linked to the online syllabus. Your instructor will assess your rubrics as part of your grade.
