RPS C 2: Exceeding waste storage limits at permitted sites because of COVID-19 • RPS C 2 is regarding exceeding waste storage limits at permitted sites because of COVID-19. • This COVID-19 RPS only applies: § if you can demonstrate that you need to temporarily store more waste than your permit allows because of coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions § to wastes you are authorised to store under your permit • You must not: § store a type of waste that is not on your permit § store waste for more than 3 months unless the Environment Agency has agreed this in writing www. gepenv. co. uk ENERGY | ENVIRONMENT | TRAINING Slide: 4

RPS 224: Collecting non-hazardous, non-food waste from different premises at a single site • Currently an Environmental Permit is required if you are producing, treating and storing waste from different premises at a single site. • RPS 224 means that organisations can treat and store waste onsite without an Environmental Permit so long as they: § Only store waste you are collecting for onward transportation § Store putrescible waste (organic matter that will decompose) in a fully enclosed container to prevent and minimise odour and access by vermin and pests § Store liquid waste in a suitable leak-proof container with secondary containment, such as a bund or any other system that prevents waste escaping § Do not mix different types of waste. www. gepenv. co. uk ENERGY | ENVIRONMENT | TRAINING Slide: 5

RPS C 8: Social distancing when signing and handing over waste transfer and consignment notes in person • RPS C 8 is regarding social distancing when signing and handing over waste transfer and consignment notes in person because of COVID-19. • RPS C 8 applies to organisations that use: § paper copies of waste transfer notes, § paper consignment notes § an electronic system that requires a digital signature on a handset This RPS will be withdrawn on 30 th September, unless this is extended. www. gepenv. co. uk ENERGY | ENVIRONMENT | TRAINING Slide: 6

Scotland's Deposit Return Scheme The Scottish government has voted in favour of a deposit

Scotland's Deposit Return Scheme The Scottish government has voted in favour of a deposit return scheme, the first of the UK to introduce such a scheme for drinks containers. • The scheme requires a deposit of 20 p when purchasing drinks in single containers. • This deposit can be returned by taking the empty container back to a local shop or takeaway restaurant.
