What is it exactly? Report that informs decision-makers of significant environmental effects of proposed projects Identifies possible ways to minimize effects Offers alternatives
Projects Won’t Happen If… Potential Affect to HURT environment habitat of fish or wildlife Threaten to hurt plant or animal community Rare or threatened species Eliminate important examples of major periods of California history
Why is it needed? This document can potentially protect a site before construction Proper factual information is needed for decision makers to be informed General public should be informed of what’s being added into their communities
What does it consist of? Cover Page Table of Contents Introduction Purpose and need of proposed action Affected Environment Range of Alternatives Analysis Impacts to Threatened or Endangered Species Air and Water Quality Impacts to Historic and Cultural Sites Social and Economic Impacts to Local Communities
Cover Page Include the following: Where is it? What’s going to happen? Project Number (can be made up) Work Order # (can be made up) Location Date Prepared by and contact info on how to reach you
Table of contents This will vary upon where each of the items required is placed in your finalized report
Introduction ----Purpose and need of proposed action Give a brief paragraph of what your project is going to be creating, when, and the benefits of what your project will bring. 5 -8 sentences Purpose and Need of Proposed Action (5 -8 sentences minimum) Subheading of the Introduction This paragraph includes the purpose of the project, the need as to why you need it in a particular area, and the details of the proposed action. For the proposed action, make up the fictitious dates that you project your project taking as well as the measures you are taking to avoid too much traffic while being created (i. e. February 2019 -June 2023 weekday evenings from the hours of 4 am-9 am to avoid traffic)
Affected Environment (5 -8 sentences minimum) For this section, think about all the harm that your project is going to be creating to the soil, living and nonliving organisms, shade, vegetation, traffic, noise, distraction, anything that you can project will be harmed.
Range of Alternatives (5 -8 sentences minimum) If you project that the construction of a proposed project is “too environmentally harmful” offer alternatives! Perhaps a location that you have seen elsewhere in your community to minimize the harm. Sell your point here, why is the alternative a better option than where the project is currently planned to be? 5 -8 sentences minimum
Analysis (2 of 4 seen on this slide) Analysis Impacts to Threatened or Endangered Species What specific species have you seen or researched that live in the proposed site that may be affected by the construction of this project? Include 3 -4 their scientific names sentences minimum Air and Water Quality Impacts How will the air be affected with the construction of the project? Will water also be affected with the runoff of all the pollution created? Think of cement, air pollution while mixing cement, etc 3 -4 sentences minimum
Analysis (last 2 of 4 seen on this slide) Analysis continued Impacts to Historic and Cultural Sites Research the site and what historical value it may hold. How would the creation of this project potentially affect the culture currently seen in that neighborhood? 3 -4 sentences minimum Social and Economic Impacts to Local Communities Estimate how much money you think this project will cost, make over the years, and do to the city financially.
