What is the GEG Consulting Platform? GEG members volunteer their expertise to help facilitate any projects your Company is pursuing from October 2013 onwards. Your Company and faculty advisors of GEG will guide and provide feedback during the duration of the project. Project duration: Approximately 4 -5 months.

Why GEG? • An interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students will tackle environmental and economics topics important to your organization while providing GEG members with real-life learning experiences with key environmental issues. • Member students of GEG have backgrounds in: • Economics • Statistics • Environmental Studies • Political Science

Consulting Project Structure Green Economics Faculty Advisory Board: Sabina Shaikh, Ph. D Theodore Steck, MD GEG Student Board: Act as initial point of contact with client and agree on project scope and deliverables Project Team Leaders: Main Point of contact with client Research Analysts (3 -4 per team): 3 -4 members per project. Team numbers can vary based on project scope. Client

Deliverables The Green Economics Group will work with the client to determine the deliverables. Deliverables can include: • Data Collection • Market Research • Data Analysis (e. g. Analysis of policy implementation, business data, and particular industry incentives) • Publish project results and research process in the annual GEG Journal • Literature Review • Produce Reports or Blogs for Client Communication

Previous Projects: Consulting Clients The Office of Sustainability at the University of Chicago is working with campus and community partners to create a culture of sustainability on campus by using a data-driven yet relationship-based approach to integrating sustainable behaviors and infrastructure across campus. The Green Economics Group will work with the Office of Sustainability to assess student conceptions of social media and the costs of environmentally friendly habits in dorms utilizing demographic data sets from primary research and analysis. For 2013 -2014 the Center for International Studies is organizing a year-long program titled, Global Energies: A Public Inquiry into the Ecology, Science and Politics of Energy in the 21 st Century. The rise of biofuels and shale gas and oil have created ripple effects in global energy markets but have also fundamentally altered natural and social environments around the world. In conjunction with this series, the Green Economics Group will work with the Environment, Agriculture and Food Working Group to form a “Global Energies” team. In the autumn, the featured issue will be fracking and its effects on the environment and energy markets; in winter quarter, focus turns to biofuels; and spring offers viewpoints on alternative energy and a world beyond fossil fuels. GEG is working with the Metropolitan Planning Council on stormwater and green infrastructure incentives, together with the EAF team. The project involves the research to create a stormwater incentives decisionmaking tool for communities looking to create new green infrastructure programs for private property owners. There is a good deal of attention on this issue in the City and the region and ample opportunities for social media updates. GEG will coordinate with the Green Chicago Restaurant Coalition on a variety of possible opportunities that include working with restaurants directly to improve sustainability and environmental impact, leading to green certification. GEG could also potentially work with the GCRC partners (restaurant groups, food suppliers, farmers, policy makers) on environmental data analysis and recommendations.

Previous Projects: Research Team • Published research papers covering a broad spectrum of environmental issues such as fracking, geothermal energy, waste disposal, and the 2012 farm bill • Competed in the Columbia Competitive Climate Change Competition. All GEG teams entered the final round a team placed 2 nd in a nationwide competition of college students.
