Otalgia: pain in the ear either due to pathology in the ear or referred from other remote area.
Barotrauma: trauma in the middle ear due to rapid and marked decrease of middle ear pressure bellow atmospheric pressure.
pathogenesis: 1 - at the sea level: the atmospheric pressure = zero 2 - During ascent: out pr become more decreased, the ear try to escape air through the ET to decrease the Pr to equalize both sides. 3 - During descent: the atmospheric pr rapidly increased, in this time the ET must open to allow air to enter the ME , which will increase the Pr. Failure to open ET, will lead to Barotrauma
Causes nasal Obstruction 1. Allergic: AR 2. Nasopharyngeal mass : Adenoid. 3. Nasal trauma. 4. Hypertrophy of inferior turbinates. 5. Nasal polyposis. 6. DNS: If S – shaped. 7. Congenital : as Bilateral choanal atresia ( Emergency) 8. Tumors.
