Comprehension Welcome back, how did you do? Here are the example answers to this section of Part Two: 1. Explain why Prince Otto went to the workshop of Dr Kalmenius. Prince Florian died straight after he was born. Prince Otto took his body to Dr Kalmenius so that he could make a clockwork replica of Prince Florian. 2. Explain why Princess Mariposa was not suspicious about the replacement clockwork baby. The princess fainted before seeing the baby, he died in the arms of the nurse. Dr Kalmenius created a clockwork child that could breath, move, smile, and felt warm. When Prince Otto gave her the replica of Prince Florian, she only thought about how pretty they looked together. 3. When Prince Florian became ill in his fifth year, what concerned Princess Mariposa the most? The princess was concerned because Prince Florian no longer looked handsome next to her. 4. What concerned Prince Otto the most when Prince Florian became ill in his fifth year? Prince Otto was concerned that he wouldn’t have an heir. 5. Dr Kalmenius didn’t get the chance to say, ‘The heart that is given must also be kept. ’ to Prince Otto. Explain what you think he meant by this. Dr Kalmenius was not talking about a physical heart, he meant giving one’s heart as in loving someone. He suspected that neither Prince Otto nor Princess Mariposa actually loved Prince Florian.
