English Riddles Lesson 3
Writing a riddle… The next job is to use your plan from Lesson 2 to help you write your riddle. • Use each section of your plan carefully to help you write your riddle. On the next page is a checklist that you can use to help you when you are writing.
A checklist… Use this checklist to help make sure that you include all the features of a riddle that you have learnt about. You also need think remember everything you know about capital letters and full stops too! There is some writing paper saved on the blog for you to use if you wish to. Alternatively, write on any paper you have at home.
An example… Statements giving clues about what your riddle is about Move the box to find the answer! Exclamation sentence Expanded noun phrases to describe and give detail. I am a small, grey animal. I can live in your garden or inside your home. When I’m scared I curl into a ball to protect myself. I move quickly across the floor. I like to eat sticks and leaves. If you look under a rock you might find me there! How tiny I am! Some people call me a ‘Grandad’ or ‘Piggy’ What am I? Clues get more specific as the riddle goes on. Ends with a question to ask the reader to solve the riddle!

Extra Challenge: Why not try writing another riddle? It could be fun to write a riddle about someone you know? Perhaps a teacher? Or a friend? You could even write a riddle about yourself!
