Planning a riddle… This lesson will help you to plan some ideas for your own riddle. First you need to decide what animal your riddle will be about… Choose an animal you know some facts about already! Or…if you fancy a challenge choose an animal you don’t know much about and spend some time researching it first!

Planning a riddle… Now you need to complete a plan writing notes about your chosen animal. The plan has a few different headings for you think about. This will help you to gather some ideas for writing your riddle.

Planning a riddle… Let’s look at each section of the plan and share some ideas of how you might complete it • • • Grey Small Oval Shell • • All of these ideas are about the appearance of your chosen animal. This means you need to think carefully about what it looks like. Include lots of adjectives so that you can write some expanded noun phrases in your riddle. Remember you don’t need to write in full sentences on your plan. Key words and notes are best!

Planning a riddle… In this last box you need to draw a picture of your chosen animal! Add lots of detail and colour it in if you can! If you thought of anymore things to add to your plan when you were drawing your picture go back and add them to the plan now!
