ENGLISH LITERATURE There are four Learning Objectives and candidates are assessed on their ability to: • Show detailed knowledge of literary texts • Understand the meanings of literary texts and their contexts • Recognise and appreciate ways in which writers use language to create and shape meanings and effects; • Communicate a sensitive and informed personal response to literary texts STRATEGIES • Background knowledge of author • Historical and social influences • Other works by author for recommended reading • Discussions on aspects of the literary work
ENGLISH LITERATURE CLASS 7 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA Formative assessment : • Based on class work and class activities • Book of the month, Louis Sachar’s Holes and Poetry may be used as texts formative assessment • Work habits of the student – Regularity, presentation and behaviour Summative assessment: Paper 1 (NOVELS AND POETRY)– Time: 1 hour 45 minutes – 3 questions: One with 4 short answers of 60 – 80 words 1 textual essay 150 – 175 words 1 empathic task 150 – 175 words Marks = Total: 60 marks Paper 2 (PROSE EXTRACTS) Time- 45 minutes One Question out of three questions 1) One empathic task 2) Passage based 3) Textual Essay Marks = Total 20 marks each (75% weightage) 20 marks ( 25% weightage)
ENGLISH LITERATURE CLASS 8 ASSESSMENT CRITERIA FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT : • Based on class work and class activities • Book of the month, Drama and Poetry may be used as texts formative assessment • Work habits of the student – Regularity, presentation and behaviour SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT Paper 1 (Poetry and Drama) Duration: 2 hours Marks: 75 Poetry: 5 questions with short answers of 75 - 100 words each Drama: 1 textual essay 175 - 200 words 1 empathic task 175 - 200 words Paper 2 (Prose) Duration: 45 minutes One Question out of three questions • One empathic task • Passage based • Textual Essay 5 marks each = 25 marks (75% weightage) Marks = Total 25 marks ( 25% weightage)
