KEY SKILL – SINGLE WORD ANALYSIS Confidence Wealth ‘Rich’ Content Secure Happy Charles Dickens introduces us to Fezziwig by describing his voice as ‘comfortable, oily, rich, fat’ and ‘jovial. ’ The adjective ‘rich’ implies there is a wealth to his voice showing he is confident and content with life and Christmas, qualities Scrooge lacks. Fezziwig is Scrooge’s foil character here. He is ‘jovial’ and secure with what he has and does not fear poverty like his former apprentice; he is happy with what he has and strives to bring happiness and joy to others at Christmas.
