Year 10 – Narrative writing practice
Before you begin to write a story, you will need to create a character. • Create a character you know inside and out. • Write him/her a biography (parents, place of birth, childhood events, faith, culture, beliefs…) • Use the questions on the next slide to write your character’s initial biography. Add as much detail as possible.
Character biography 1. What is your character’s name, gender and age? 2. Where is she/he from? 3. What is/were his/her family like? 4. What is his/her religion or belief system? 5. Do she/he have a job or any past occupations? 6. Do she/he have any traumatic or difficult events in his/her past? 7. What are the key obstacles in his/her life right now? 8. What are the best things about his/her life right now? 9. If his/her house was on fire, what is the one thing he/she would try to save? 10. If he/she was arrested, who would he/she call? 11. Does he/she find it easy to speak up for him/herself and ask for what he/she want/need? Or would he/she struggle to do this? 12. Would he/she rather be poor and healthy or rich and ill?
