English III Requirements In this course, students will analyze American literature as it reflects social perspective and historical significance by continuing to use and analyze language for expressive, expository, argumentative, and literary purposes. Thematic selections reveal the intellectual and emotional growth of the United States. *All students, in any level of the course, are required to take the North Carolina Final Exam (NCFE) for English III. *

English III STANDARD English III is a comprehensive grammar, composition, oral communication, and literature

English III STANDARD English III is a comprehensive grammar, composition, oral communication, and literature course that encourages the expansion of writing skills and experimentation with new ideas. This course emphasizes the relationship of literature to language and composition through the study of vocabulary and written assignments. Assignments include the reading of novels, short stories, plays, poems, articles, and other nonfiction texts, as well as the writing of a formal argumentative research paper and a variety of essays.

English III HONORS English III Honors consists of an in-depth study of American Literature

English III HONORS English III Honors consists of an in-depth study of American Literature and a continued emphasis on composition. Writing is stressed, and exercises include compositions, literary analysis, journals, a formal argumentative research paper, and a literary analysis Honors paper. Daily in-class discussion and oral presentations are required of students. Most reading is expected to be completed outside of class.
