Day 1
Day 1 – Grammar – Adjectives • What is an adjective? An adjective is a word that is used to describe a noun. Example: The beautiful princess walked down the winding road.
Look at this example… Can you find the adjectives in these sentences? These are the adjectives in this passage. Great iron describes the cauldron and powerful describes the brew
Look carefully at these pictures. Can you find the correct adjectives in each picture?
Now find the adjectives in these sentences. Please write the sentences out in your home learning books and circle the adjectives. 1. The quick fox jumped over the lazy dog. 2. A brown, furry bear woke up in his dark, gloomy cave. 3. The moody rabbit hopped out of his tiny hole. 4. Thin roots suck up the cold water from the soil. 5. Joe was very calm in his PSHE lesson.

Now read the book again and think carefully about what is happening in the story. You can use the button if you are finding some words difficult.
Day 2 Main Task Answer these questions in your Home Learning book 1. What is the vet called and what does he do? 2. At what time will the vet see Bud the Bird? 3. How does the vet help Hoppy’s foot? 4. Why does Kit need two drops in her ear? 5. What does a vet do? 6. Where does a horse live and what do they eat? 7. Why does the vet have to clean up at the end of the day?
Day 3
Day 3 – Character description Today we are going to be writing some sentences all about a character from our book. We need to remember to use a range of adjectives! My favourite character in this book is Rags the dog. Lets think of some adjectives to describe Rags. Fluffy Happy Brown Friendly Hairy Cute
Day 3 – Character description Now we are going to use these adjectives to write some interesting sentences about Rags. These are the adjectives that we thought of: Hairy Brown Cute Friendly Happy Fluffy Rags is a very happy and friendly dog who loves meeting new people. He is a very fluffy dog with brown, hairy toes.
Day 3 – Character description – Your turn! Hoppy the rabbit Kit the cat Who is your favourite character from the book? Write a list of adjectives to describe your character in your home learning book. Then you need to use your adjectives to write 8 interesting sentences all about your characters. Sky the horse CHALLENGE! Can you use a range of sentence openers and conjunctions in your writing?
Day 4
Day 4 – Setting description You are going to be describing a setting where your animal will live. Our character was Rags. . This is what we thought about. What can you see? § A comfy, brown bed. § Cosy, warm fire. What can you smell? § My yummy tea falling into my blue bowl. § My owners delicious tea! I hope they share some with me. What can you hear? § Joyful children playing. § Squeaky gate opening telling me my owner has come home. What can you touch? - Soft, cuddly toys. - My shiny, rubber ball.
Day 4 – Setting description Now your turn to describe where your character is going to live in your home learning book. Use this grid to help you. Remember to use adjectives (describing words) to help to describe nouns. What can you see? What can you hear? What can you smell? What can you touch?

Day 5 – Writing your own short story about your character. Here is the beginning of my story. One sunny day Rags the dog was feeling hungry. He woke up hearing the noisy birds squawking in the tall trees outside the window. All of a sudden he heard the squeaky gate open and he felt so excited because he thought it was mum coming home. The door flung and all I could smell was the delicious food that she had in the bag. My tail was wagging so fast it was like a windscreen wiper.
Day 5 – Write your own short story about your character. Now it is your turn! Remember these important things… Capital letters Full stops Interesting adjectives Different sentence openers Conjunctions – and/ because
